Advanced level (5-6)General aims and goals:
At the advanced level students already have a good knowledge of Finnish grammar as well as a wide vocabulary. The fusion of knowledge from earlier grammar and vocabulary develops through various tasks and advanced exercises. Material is adjusted to the specific needs of students. Groups usually take this opportunity to decide whether to concentrate more on conversation, writing or text comprehension.
Both the teacher and the students experience great challenges at this level.
Students are encouraged to build their own conception of the Finnish language and to be independent in their use of it. Teachers serve to guide the student by presenting new challenges while being available for immediate assistance. This enhances the ability of students to develop their skills as they solve problems.
Advanced vocabulary- Practising conversation and written skills regarding culture, politics, current events, complex issues at work etc.
Advanced structures- infinitive and participle usage in different constructions.
Fine-tuned styles- both in conversation and writing.
Expression of themselves in demanding situations- giving presentations, writing documents for work or various offices and institutions.
