Elementary level (1-2)General aims and goals:
The aim of this elementary course is to discover and understand the basics of both written and spoken Finnish used in everyday life situations such as shopping and running errands. An understanding of the most basic structures and essential vocabulary is taught as well as practiced during this first phase. Learning develops through a survival approach, which is not only productive but encouraging for each student as well.
Basic vocabulary- foods, items, numbers, time, places and describing people and things.
Conversation- greetings, good-byes, requesting items and services needed in restaurants, shops and doctor appointments etc.
Structures and forms- verb types and tenses, noun types and cases (basic, partitive, genitive and local cases) and sentence types (subject-verb-object, possessive, necessity, predicative).
